FAQs

  1. Q: Does the Moto Flak Mount (MFM) work with all GoPro® Hero® Cameras?  A: The MotoFlakMount is compatible with ALL GoPro Hero Cameras, including the Hero9 black, Hero8 and Hero7, etc. all the way back to the HD Hero, by utilizing the standard GoPro® J-Hook mount. In fact, it will accept all standard quick-release buckles sold by GoPro®.
  2. Q: Does the Moto Flak Mount include the J-Hook adapter?  A: No, this adapter is currently included with the GoPro Hero. It is required for use, so if you lost or broke yours, you’ll need to purchase another directly through GoPro or a GoPro retailer. Note: alternatively, the MFM may be used with a standard quick release adapter and at lease one pivot arm from a GoPro Helmet Front Mount (or 2 standard pivot arms).
  3. Q: Does the Moto Flak Mount work with all chest protectors?  A: No, but the MotoFlakMount will work with the majority of chest protectors on the market. In fact, it should work with almost all conventional chest protectors that utilize 1 single rigid front chest plate. For rearward mounting compatibility, it will work with most chest protectors which utilize either a single, rigid back plate, or 2 rigid flexible-coupled back plates. The Fox Air Frame, the Thor Sentinel Pro, and the TLD Body Guard 2 are examples of popular models which utilize multiple rigid back plates and which are frontward and rearward compatible with the MotoFlakMount.
  4. Q: Is the Moto Flak Mount compatible with my Leatt neck brace and my chest protector.  A: The MotoFlakMount generally will not affect neck brace-chest protector compatibility. This includes all Leatt neck braces, Alpinestars neck braces, and Atlas neck braces. Only a very small amount of clearance is necessary to fit the upper hook onto the top of the chest plate and should not create a clearance issue. Also, the upper hook strap is length adjustable if more clearance is needed. See compatibility table notes for model specific information.
  5. Q: If my chest protector is not listed in the compatibility table, is there a way I can check compatibility before I buy?  A: Yes, if your chest protector has a single, rigid front chest plate (most do) and features such as edges, vents, and pockets for the mounting hooks to engage, along with a relatively flat or slightly curved surface on the upper front of the chest plate, then the MFM should be compatible with your chest protector. See product photos (link to photos here) and examples of hook-engaged chest plate features required for mounting. Note: body armor with sewn chest or back plates or segmented spine protectors are generally not compatible.
  6. Q: Does the Moto Flak Mount work with body armor suits?  A: Yes and No. On most body armor suits that have a single rigid chest plate, the MotoFlakMount (w/ the Optional Upper Hook) can be used if a minimum of four 7.5-8mm (or 5/16″) holes are drilled thru the plastic chest plate. In this case, the Optional Upper Hook engages the chest plate thru two of the drilled holes, while the two lower hooks engage the remaining holes. Two additional holes can be drilled for the side hooks and straps if desired. Drilling is required on these applications because most of these suits have their chest plate sewn to the fabric liner and therefore do not have sufficient features (namely edges) for the hooks to engage. Body armor suits that utilize 2 separate (left and right) chest plates are not compatible with the MFM.
  7. Q: The J-Hook adapter has a tight fit snapping in and out of the MFM. Why is this?  A: The fit was engineered to prevent rattling and free-play during the high-vibrations in off road riding & racing. Because of this, removing the J-Hook adapter (or any other quick release adapter) might seem difficult if the correct technique is not used: use one’s thumbs to push both releases inward and away from one’s self to easily slide the J-Hook adapter out of the MFM. Pushing the adapter out from its release features with your thumbs is much easier than trying to pull it out!
  8. Q: I noticed that only the Hero 3 is mounted right-side up on the Moto Flak Mount while the Hero 2 camera is mounted upside-down. Why is this?  A: Due to larger form factors, the Hero 2 and HD Hero cameras need to be mounted upside-down to allow for a proper mounting angle and the most minimalistic and robust mounting, by using only a singe GoPro® J-Hook mount. GoPro® has made it easy to put the camera into “upside-down mode” from the camera’s settings. See GoPro® documentation for more details.
  9. Q: Does the Moto Flak Mount come in different color options?  A: At this time, the MotoFlakMount is available in only 2 options- Black/Black and White/Black center plate/strap combinations. These options are shown in the product pictures and on the Store page.
  10. Q: How do I adjust the angle of my camera for the best footage?  A: See the tech tips page.
  11. Q: How do I install the Optional Upper Hook on my Moto Flak Mount? A: The strap routing is the same for both the Universal Upper Hook and the Optional Upper Hook. Simply remove the strap from the currently installed upper hook and re-routed it thru the new upper hook slots the same way it was previously installed. The strap routing is shown on the last page of the documentation included with the MFM. This documentation can also be viewed or download here in PDF form:
